It is good to be the king! The Los Angeles Kings visited Jobing.com Arena and took the first game of the series against the Phoenix Coyotes. The Kings controlled the Coyotes, striking first from a goal by Anze Kopitar. The Coyotes tied it up before the end of the first by Derek Morris. Second period mimicked the first with goals from Dwight King and Mikkel Boedker, the score at two a piece. The Kings proved to be too strong as Captain Dustin Brown netted the third and eventual game winner just over two minutes into the third. Dwight King scored his second of the game to put the icing on the cake and the Kings have taken a key road victory. Despite the loss, Coyotes goalie Mike Smith had a .936 save percentage, a better one than his opponent Jonathan Quick, making 44 saves. If the Coyotes want to compete in this series they need to adjust their defensive play or fear a painful exit from the playoffs. Game two is Tuesday night at 9 PM EST.
