The NHL today suspended San Jose Sharks forward John Scott for four games without pay after punching Anaheim Ducks forward Tim Jackman in a contest between the two teams earlier this week.
According to a statement released by the NHL, Scott was suspended for punching “an unsuspecting opponent and causing injury.”
The incident occurred Monday night during Anaheim’s 3-2 victory over the Sharks. Scott struck Jackman in the face toward at the side of the night toward the end of a play in the second period. Jackman immediately crumpled to the ice where he lay still for several moments. The training staff helped him off the ice and he did not return.
No penalty was assessed to Scott at the time.
This isn’t the first time altercation between the two on the ice. Scott was suspended for two games in October for coming onto the ice to fight Jackman. Scott is considered a repeat offender under the collective bargaining agreement after previously being suspended for an illegal hit to the head and will forfeit $34,146.36 based on his annual salary.
