After months of negotiations, the Los Angeles Kings have inked franchise superstar Anze Kopitar to an eight year contract extension worth $80 million.
According to ESPN, the extension includes a $9 million bonus to be paid July 1 and another $9 million bonus on July 1, 2017. There is a full no-movement clause in the first four years of the contract and a modified no-trade clause after that. Here is a full breakdown of Kopitar’s salary by season:
2016-17: $9M sb/$5M salary
2017-18: $9M sb/$4M salary
2018-19: $12M
2019-20: $11M
2020-21: $8M
2021-22: $8M
2022-23: $7M
2023-24: $7M
Kopitar leads the Kings with 23 assists and 35 points in 42 games this season. Selected 11th overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by the Kings, he is a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Kings.
