Word is pouring out today that another superstar has been injured in practice, prior to the start of the regular season. In this case, it’s Jack Eichel of the Buffalo Sabres.
Eichel was injured in a net-front battle for the puck with teammate Zemgus Girgensons. After the mix-up, Eichel collapsed down awkwardly on his left leg. He remained on the ice afterward, rolling in obvious pain while grabbing at his left leg. He was quickly surrounded by his teammates, who knew the injury appeared serious.
Shortly after, Eichel was helped up by teammates as they assisted the injured star in getting back to the locker room to be examined by trainers.

It was later confirmed by Buffalo Sabres coach Dan Bylsma that Eichel injured his ankle on the play. However, no further details have been released at the time this writing.
Jack Eichel was going to be a key component of the Sabres resurgence this season. The team had a solid off-season, and it was expected that Eichel would improve upon his 24 goals and 56 points from last season.
We certainly hope the injury is not too serious and that Jack Eichel can get back on to the ice without missing too many games.
