Auston Matthews has been wearing the new Jetspeed FT4 Pro skates all season, but it wasn’t until this week that he switched to his new custom black and blue Toronto Maple Leafs themed skates.
Getting a real close look at the skates, you can see some of the incredible detail included in the design. On one side, for example, there’s the outline of the Toronto skyline. More prominent are Matthews initials and number in a nice bold blue AM34 near the heel, and a Maple Leaf in white on the back of the boot.
Along the outside are some important items for Matthews, including his birthdate and location, the location where he grew up and played, and all the stops in his career including the World Junior Championship appearance for the USA in 2018, playing for the ZSC Lions in the Swiss League, when he was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs, the North America team for the World Cup of Hockey, and his NHL All-Star Game selections from 2017-2020.
From a technology perspective, the skates feature CCM’s one-piece boot technology, their SpeedBlade XS holder, and STEP Blacksteel.
Matthews may have received a boost in confidence from the switch too. The Maple Leafs star center had been on a three-game pointless streak, and a five-game goalless streak before switching to his custom skates. In two games since making the switch, he’s picked up three goals and one assist, good for four points in only two games.
