Before the game between the Boston Bruins and visiting Montreal Canadiens on March 3, 2013, Sandy Hook Elementary School teacher Natalie Hammond did the ceremonial puck drop. The Bruins recently visited Newtown, Connecticut where they partook in playing street hockey with the community’s youth and signed autographs. Hammond, a lifelong Bruins fan, came not only to see her favorite team, but to see the joy in the kids after such a tragic event. Hammond is a survivor of the shooting, still wearing a cast from bullets that hit her as she blocked a door preventing the shooter from coming into one area of the school. While the game itself later lead to an emotional, fight filled game that made some fans question the brutality of the game, hockey players off the ice are some, if not the most caring individuals in the world.
March 2, 2013, the Phoenix Coyotes take to warmups against the Anaheim Ducks. The two teams went back-and-forth, scoring a total of eight goals in regulation that needed to be decided by a shootout. Of the six shooters, Steve Sullivan of the Coyotes had the loan goal for the extra point.
For whatever reason, the NHL had some players partake in “stylized” portrait shoots. While only a few resembled a picture worth keeping, most bordered awkward (Chicago Blackhawks Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane) to strange (Vancouver Canucks Roberto Luongo).
The Anaheim Ducks warm-up before their game against the Los Angeles Kings February 25, 2013. A mix between volleyball and soccer, the guys look to be having some fun. I wonder if anyone pulls out a Nintendo World Cup bicycle kick, super-cahrged, psychedelic ball and all.
