Goalie vs Goalie fights are rare and pretty awesome when it does happen. What you don’t normally see is when a player and goalie trade blows away from everyone else.
That’s what happened this afternoon when Montreal’s Brandon Prust and Tampa Bay’s Ben Bishop got into it during a commercial break. From the video below, you can’t tell what each player said but it was enough for Bishop to swing his glove at Prust to start the exchange. The officials quickly broke it up but they were followed by players from both sides who wanted a piece of the action themselves.
As for penalties, both goalies (Bishop and Carey Price of Montreal) got 2-minute penalties for leaving the crease. Prust was sent off with a minor for unsportsmanlike conduct. Players receiving 10-minute misconduct penalties were Montreal’s George Parros and Tampa Bay’s Radko Gudas.
Check out the video below and see for yourselves who was most responsible for the fight. As for the game, Tampa Bay won the afternoon contest when Nate Thompson scored his fifth goal of the season with less than a minute remaining in the game.
