Seven goals and nearly 200 penalty minutes later, the Hershey Bears skated to a 4-3 victory over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Saturday night in a game that was as chaotic as it was entertaining.
Tempers began flaring with roughly five minutes left in the second period. However, the game really got out of hand when Tigers winger Brett Gallant went after Bears winger Chris Brown as he was headed into the penalty box. For what it’s worth, Brown was clearly instigating several Tigers players, and the refs had their hands tied trying to separate Gallant from the play. That’s when Tigers defenseman Scott Mayfield skated up, grabbed Brown and began unloading haymakers. Brown recovered quickly and landed several nice shots himself.
Several other fights ensued in the following moments, including a center-ice matchup between Bridgeport goaltender Kevin Poulin and Hershey’s Pheonix Copley. After all was said and done, 192 penalty minutes and nine game misconducts were handed out during the melee. Check out video of the brawl below. A screenshot of the box score can be seen above.
