Tonight the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Minnesota Wild 3-2 behind goals from Sam Gagner and Mark Streit.
The moment of the night came with seconds left and the Wild having an extra attacker on the ice in an attempt to tie the game.
With the puck on the right side, Mikael Granlund found a wide open Charlie Coyle on the far side of the ice. Granlund sauced a pass through four Flyers defenders to Coyle and Coyle thought he had a side open net with seconds remaining to tie the game. Neuvirth sprawled to his right and Coyle’s wrister hit Neuvirth’s stick and went into his body inside the blue part of the crease.
The Wild thought they tied the game and after video review, it was confirmed the puck did not cross the goal line.
When the season is over and we see video montages of the season and playoffs, we will be sure to see this video among the saves of the year.
With the win, the Flyers are three points out of the final Wild Card spot in the East. They have 65 points but they still have to leapfrog Carolina and New Jersey before finding themselves in a playoff spot.
