Auston Matthews, the young Toronto Maple Leafs center and already one of the best hockey players in the world, makes his 2017-18 debut on the three stars of the week list. He finished the week number two behind Nikolaj Ehlers of the Winnipeg Jets and ahead of Nicklas Backstrom of the Washington Capitals. All three players had great weeks and will look to follow it up with remarkable seasons. Let’s dive in and take a closer look at what gear they’re using.
FIRST STAR – NIKOLAJ EHLERS, WINNIPEG JETS
Nikolaj Ehlers earned first star honors for the week by leading the NHL in goals during that time. While helping to lead the Jets to three wins on the week, Ehlers tallied five goals including a hat trick against the Edmonton Oilers and two game winners.
Ehlers appears to be a Bauer guy head to toe. He’s wearing a Bauer helmet up top, then a set of Bauer Nexus 1N gloves. For his five goals, he used the brand new Bauer Vapor 1X Lite stick. His pants are also from Bauer, and on his feet are Bauer Nexus V-Cut skates.
SECOND STAR – AUSTON MATTHEWS, TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS
Auston Matthews continued his hot start to the season by adding four goals in three games played last week. Two of his goals were extremely club clutch and came as overtime winners. Matthews now has five goals and three assists in his first six games.
Matthews is another Bauer athlete who is wearing all Bauer gear on the ice. Starting up top is a Bauer helmet and Matthews also uses Bauer Nexus 1N gloves. He uses a Bauer Nexus 1N stick as well as Bauer pants and finishes his setup with a fresh new pair of 2017 Bauer Vapor 1X skates.
THIRD STAR – NICKLAS BACKSTROM
Nicklas Backstrom may not have gotten enough credit finishing with the third star of the week after tallying nine points in four games played. He picked up at least one point in each game, and also scored goals in three out of the four games. Backstrom is now among the league leaders with 11 points on the year from 3 goals and 8 assists.
Backstrom used to be a Bauer guy but now finds himself primarily wearing Warrior gear. Up top is a Warrior Krown PX2 helmet, and he wears Warrior Covert QRL gloves. He snipes and sauces with a Warrior Alpha QX stick. and also wears Warrior QRL pants. Of course, Warrior doesn’t yet make skates so Backstrom is still wearing the original Bauer Vapor 1X skates on his feet this season.
