The NHL has announced the 2014 NHL Winter Classic between the Toronto Maple Leafs visiting the Detroit Red Wings. While it was not much of a surprise to most hockey fans as the NHL intended to honor the cancelled 2013 Winter Classic, it is still nice to hear it confirmed. The two teams will play January 1, 2014 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, home of the University of Michigan Wolverines. Their venue will be The Big House, where the Wolverine’s football team plays. While the event will be a spectacle in itself, with NHL re-alignment happening next year, both teams will be new divisional rivals.
